Hong Kong-based Mexican alternative electro-rock band DeerMX has released their latest EP Ai, a futuristic sounding rock album that explores themes of identity and connection in a world increasingly defined by technology.
This EP evolves significantly from their last EP in 2023, Fables of Humanity and Mother Nature, and builds upon DeerMX’s psychedelic rock foundations, adding a twist of electronic influence to reflect the EP’s themes of the contrast between human nature and artificial intelligence, in a modern age where technology advancements have blurred the boundaries between human and AI.
In Ai, DeerMX brings a more refined sound, alongside more profound lyrics, embracing a richer sonic palette that showcases the band’s growth as artists. The approach of this EP is also more collaborative and organic, with all songs fully produced and arranged by DeerMX, alongside two friends joining them on drums and guitar, bringing in a fresh dynamic to the band.
“When listeners dive into Ai, we hope they can feel exposed to something ‘out of the box’, and find the beauty of the atypical reflected in both the sound and lyrics,” shared DeerMX.
“This EP is about the questions that are linked to our human nature, and we aim for it to be able to resonate deeply with all our listeners.”
Ai is a musical triptych that explores artificiality (the machine), the search (the subject), and utopia (massifying thought and homogenizing to just one).
The first single released was “Human\” which uses dialogue in the algorithm to define what it means to be human through a machine. The second single, “You’ve Left Me Nothing,” represents the resistance and resignation of human beings as they witness the subjugation of critical thought and human intelligence versus artificial intelligence. The third single, “AI,” reflects artificial intelligence beautifying reality, enhancing it, distorting it, and constructing the visual utopia that has so deeply captivated humanity.
In addition to its digital version, the EP can also be purchased in a physical cassette format, which not only contains tracks from “AI” but also includes some of the band’s most streamed singles on Spotify.
The EP also features remixes by IN-NO-V8, a musician and digital artist from the UK now based in Chiang Mai. He has collaborated with Thai musicians at the Jai Thep Festival in Chiang Mai and has remixed Mira Morningstar and EXPLOHR.
DeerMX is an Mexican alternative electro-rock band that is based in Hong Kong, consisting of Adriana Martínez and Miguel Bastida. With nuances of down tempo, industrial, rock and classical music, the duo has participated in several international festivals over the years, including Clockenflap (Hong Kong), Sonar Hong Kong, V-Rox (Russia), MAISKE (Russia) and Soundrenaline (Indonesia).
Their performances are defined by the mysterious dark wave that they bring to the table, which moves the ears of audiences into deeper emotional stages with their sounds that are sometimes aggressive, and sometimes melancholic.
DeerMX released their debut album There’s No Future, which was well-received by media titles across Europe, Asia and Mexico, garnering rave reviews from South China Morning Post and Rolling Stone Mexico. In 2023, the band followed up with their EP Fables of Humanity and Mother Nature, followed by their latest EP release in 2025, Ai.
